I like to have homemade gift wrap for the ornaments my granddaughter, Zoey, makes as Christmas presents for her parents. This year, I decided to try making gift bags using free printables. I found small gift bags that were the perfect size for ornaments, including the scrap ribbon Christmas tree ornaments Zoey made for her parents this year. I also found some free gift bag printables that can be used for occasions throughout the year!

Supplies Needed for Small Christmas Gift Bags Using Free Printables
- Free Christmas gift bag printable from Fun Stuff to Do
- Red and green tissue paper
- School Glue or Craft Glue
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon for Handles (I used extra ribbon from the scrap ribbon Christmas tree ornament)
How to Make Small Christmas Gift Bags
The exact directions will depend on which printable you use. Because of limited time, I chose a printable that was already decorated. With more time, I might choose a blank template that a child could decorate. Again, we used the gift bags for the scrap ribbon Christmas tree ornaments Zoey made for her parents.
You can either cut out the bag pattern, have a child with advanced cutting skills cut out the bag, or even have a child use pin poking to punch out the bag shape.
I made creases on the printables lines to make the folding process a bit easier.
Gluing the Flaps on a Christmas Gift Bag
Zoey glued each of the flaps as needed and then held them in place to begin the drying process.
The printable we used had marks for holes. Zoey used a hole punch to punch out the holes.
Then Zoey tied a ribbon in a knot on the inside of each bag handle.
After that, only the ornament and tissue paper were needed to complete each bag!

This was a quick but attractive way to wrap gifts!

More Montessori-Friendly Gift Wrapping Activities
At age 4, Zoey made simple, sparkly wrapping paper (a craft project adaptable for toddlers on up).
At age 3, Zoey made Christmas craft punch wrapping paper … fun, pretty, and so good for fine-motor skills!
