DIY Christmas Dot Wrapping Paper … Simple Enough for a Toddler to Make

It was time for my 2-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, to wrap the ornaments she had made as Christmas presents for her parents. I wanted a quick and simple process-art activity that could be used as wrapping paper that would look nice underneath the Christmas tree.

I’d seen DIY wrapping paper made with office sticker dots at Red Ted Art. Since I have lots of color coding dot labels in my supply area, I figured that would be a perfect place to start for Christmas wrapping paper.

Just for fun, I also decided to experiment with some Do-a-Dot markers to make a second type of Christmas dot wrapping paper.

Supplies Needed for DIY Christmas Dot Wrapping Paper

For Christmas Dot Wrapping Paper Made with Color Coding Dot Labels:

• color coding dot labels (I liked using red on green and green on red for Christmas wrapping paper.) You can use removable or permanent labels, depending on which kind you’d like to have available for other activities.
• red and green tissue paper
• Multicraft tray with basket from a craft store (Not essential, but these are great for a variety of Montessori-inspired activities.)

For Christmas Dot Wrapping Paper Made with Do-a-Dot Markers:

• Do-a-Dot Markers (I just made red and green available for this project.)
• White Tissue Paper
• Medium-Size Tray from Montessori Services (not essential, but I like to have these available for a variety of Montessori-inspired activities)
• Montessori Services apron (useful for so many activities!)

Zoey is 2 years old now, but she’s loved stickers for quite a while. This activity would work well with a younger toddler, too. And, of course, an older toddler or preschooler could make a more elaborate design.

When Zoey was finished, we wrapped the sparkly craft-stick Christmas ornaments she made for her parents a different day. Zoey helped with the taping.

I love how the presents turned out … very sweet! The DIY wrapping paper activity was extremely quick and easy!

This was another very simple, fun activity. Zoey loved using the Do-a-Dot markers. This would work well with a younger or older child, too.

We didn’t need this wrapping paper for Zoey’s parents’ presents, so I sent it home with them for a present Zoey might be giving to someone this Christmas. Both activities took an amazingly short amount of time … definitely simple enough for a toddler (and the toddler’s busy parents or caregivers)!
