I love Christmas crafts and card-making activities with young children. You can make most crafts and card-making activities into Montessori-inspired activities to maximize the learning benefits.
Here are some posts I’ve published with ideas that show how easy it is to create Montessori-inspired card-making and craft activities:
Montessori-Inspired Christmas Cards
These two Montessori-inspired card-making activities are from my “Christmas Around the World: Scotland” post. Since that isn’t an obvious place to look for card-making activities, I’m sharing them again here.
You’ll find information on creating both activities along with the link to a free printable for the metal inset tree in my “Montessori Around the World: Scotland” post.
Montessori-Inspired Christmas Crafts
“Turning Christmas Crafts into Montessori-Oriented Activities” (with simple Montessori techniques) also has links to some crafts that can easily be turned into Montessori-oriented activities.
“Montessori-Inspired Christmas Crafts” has links to beaded Christmas ornaments that could easily be converted to Montessori-oriented activities.
“Kid-Made Sparkly Craft-Stick Christmas Tree Ornament” includes a Montessori-inspired learning activity.
“DIY Christmas Dot Wrapping Paper” is simple enough for a toddler to make!

These are great, Deb! Thanks for sharing them. I was literally just sitting here thinking about punching work and trying to decide on an activity that would add a holiday spin. Christmas tree punching and card making would surely be a huge hit around here.

Thanks for your sweet comment, Melissa! I’m glad this came at a good time for you. 🙂

I am going to set up a card/ornament making work station for the class today. You always have such beautiful ideas. Any suggestions on how to keep these independent art projects organized with 25 kids working with it? Most of our kids are good about leaving the work “as they found it” but there are others that frankly, just make a huge mess of projects like this.
Thank you for all that that do to help others.

Thanks so much for your kind comment, Susan! I found that it helped to focus on lots of practical life activities throughout the year to help children develop a sense of order. Otherwise, I just went over the process of putting work away whenever I demonstrated an activity like this. It is definitely more challenging with some some children, though. 😉
