Roadwork: Road Construction Printable Pack for Hands-on Fun and Learning

Road construction is a popular theme for any time of year. But it’s especially popular in the summer in climates where summer is “road construction season.” We have a new printable pack with hands-on fun and learning for ages 3-6 (and sometimes even 2-year-olds). It can be used alone or as a companion to the book Roadwork by Sally Sutton.

Montessori-Inspired Printables at Living Montessori Now

My daughter, Chrissy (a former Montessori child), and I have partnered to bring you a series of Montessori-inspired printables. The printables are typically themed and use a number of Montessori principles (although you don’t need to be a Montessori teacher or homeschooler to use them):

• They use isolation of quality.
• They use photographs or realistic images to emphasize reality.
• They typically use traditional Montessori colors such as red for consonants and blue for vowels.
• They emphasize lowercase letters, which are what we introduce letter sounds with in Montessori education. (Children tend to pick up the uppercase letters without being introduced if they’re introduced to the lowercase letter sounds.)
• They often feature themed printable versions of Montessori materials.

Roadwork: Road Construction Printable Pack

This 80-page printable pack can be used as a companion to Roadwork by Sally Sutton (although it’s great on its own) and has fun, hands-on road construction learning activities for ages 2-6.

Road Construction Number Puzzles 1-5, 1-10, 11-20, and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s

There are 2 different versions of each road construction number puzzle 1-5, 1-10, 11-20, and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

We had fun finding little rocks on a nature hike for this work!

Our little rocks were great for the 1-10 puzzles, too!

I love using Montessori bead bars with our 11-20 number puzzles! Of course, you could use little rocks or another manipulative, too.

If you have enough bead bars, they’re great for the skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s!

Road Construction Editable Tracing Cards (or Name Signs)

There are 8 road construction vehicles and a cover page that can be used to make road construction signs or a booklet. They’re editable for print, cursive, or another language! You can use them with the name of the construction vehicle or the child’s name. Directions for making editable signs are in the printable pack.

My 4-year-old grandson, Caleb, is totally in love with construction vehicles. Editable tracing road construction printables are perfect for him (and other vehicle lovers)! He typically makes a sign for his room and traces each word to make a booklet. Here, Caleb is showing his 4-year-old cousin, Sophia, the road construction vehicles in his booklet.

I Have, Who Has? Road Construction Game Directions

For most preschoolers

For cooperative play (recommended for preschoolers), pass out the cards, laying them out in front of each person.

For each person’s turn, he or she “reads”: “I have____.” After that he or she “reads” the rest of the card: “Who has______?” to find out who has the named picture. The used card is then placed in a stack with all the other used cards. When the last picture is called, it should be found on the card at the bottom of the stack (the first picture called). Everyone wins!

Advanced preschoolers on up can play cooperatively or competitively if preferred. For competitive play, the first player to use up all his or her cards wins.

Even my 8-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, had fun playing the I Have, Who Has? Road Construction Game with Sophia and Caleb. I have Zoey play the teacher, which she loves. She did a great job of directing the game. We played the cooperative version, and they loved finding the last picture asked for at the bottom of the stack shown in the middle! (You can start the game with any card, and it will work!)

Road Shape Mats and Road Shape City

Caleb had a lot of fun building a road shape city with the road shapes, straight road pieces, and curved road pieces. A new shape city can be created each time! If children prefer, they can just drive around one or more shapes without building a shape city.
