Looking for some fun literature-based activities? I want to share some great Montessori-inspired activities that can be used with the extremely popular classic book about colors Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? A Brown Bear, Brown Bear theme is great at any time, but it’s often used early in the school year as a fun way to reinforce color names.

While not a Montessori book that uses realistic images, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr., (illustrated by Eric Carle) is one of those books that I consider too wonderful to pass by when choosing books for babies and toddlers. My 10-month-old granddaughter is read the Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Slide and Find board book almost every night at bedtime.
Following are some Montessori-inspired activities for toddlers and preschoolers to extend the reading of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I’m also adding some printables that work well for preparing Montessori-inspired brown bear activities.

These were great ideas! I loved that you took a non-Montessori book that everyone seems to have and then found ways to make it more child-centered!

So fun!! Hazel has been reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear every time we go into Gymboree since they have the Eric Carle clothes and books there now. Her teacher read it in the first week of school, so she has it memorized/uses the pictures to read it to me. I love all the activities you found to go with it. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!!

These printables are great!! I also liked the Spanish rainbow ones– do you have these in Spanish? We’d love to have them for our Spanish playgroup (not for profit, of course, and with credit to you!). Otherwise I can send you a translated copy…whenever I get to making one!
Thanks!!
