I’ve been having fun creating color activities for my 18-month-old granddaughter because of her interest in matching colors.
I started with a simple activity of placing Zoey’s beloved yarn balls in matching DIY colored gift bags. (See “Montessori Monday – Montessori-Inspired Color Activities for Toddlers {Free Printables}”). She fell in love with the idea of matching colored yarn balls to the colored bags.
So I decided to prepare today’s Montessori-inspired color scavenger hunt using the Montessori Print Shop Toddler Color Books from the MPS Toddler Bundle.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of the toddler bundle. All opinions are honest and my own. This post also contains Amazon affiliate links (at no cost to you).

We had fun putting together this video with my daughter, Christina, and Zoey (Christina’s niece).
In the video, Christina followed Zoey’s lead in staying with the wooden ball matching. Usually, the activity would consist of finding a variety of objects in the colors chosen for the activity. I was happy that Christina followed Zoey’s lead because of the importance of repetition and concentration in Montessori education.
At Zoey’s age, learning the names of colors isn’t important. Zoey is very interested in colors, though, and I put interest above age in priority.
(Note: I typically organize the materials on a tray from left to right as an indirect preparation for reading and writing. In this case, we changed the order of the presentation during videotaping. The tray was already videotaped, so it ended up being in right-left order. If you present this activity as it is in the video, I recommend placing the basket of books to the left of the craft foam sheets.)
