Montessori-Inspired Printables at Living Montessori Now
My daughter, Chrissy (a former Montessori child), and I have partnered to bring you a series of Montessori-inspired printables. The printables are typically themed and use a number of Montessori principles (although you don’t need to be a Montessori teacher or homeschooler to use them):
- They use isolation of quality.
- They use photographs or realistic images to emphasize reality.
- They typically use traditional Montessori colors such as red for consonants and blue for vowels.
- They emphasize lowercase letters, which are what we introduce letter sounds with in Montessori education. (Children tend to pick up the uppercase letters without being introduced if they’re introduced to the lowercase letter sounds.)
- They often feature themed printable versions of Montessori materials.

Game Directions
For most preschoolers, start with the short version.
- For cooperative play (recommended for preschoolers), pass out the cards, laying them out in front of each person. Start with any card.
- For each person’s turn, he or she says: “I have____.” After that, he or she asks for the rest of the card: “Who has______?” to find out who has the next named artwork. Children who can read, can read the artwork title. Others can describe the artwork. For an easier version, the person with the card can show the artwork at the bottom of the card and ask who has that artwork at the top. The used card is then placed in a stack with all the other used cards.
- When the last artwork is asked for, it should be found pictured on the card at the bottom of the stack (the first artwork called). Everyone wins!
Advanced preschoolers through elementary age can just read the cards and play the game without describing the artworks. For competitive play, the first player to use up all his or her cards wins. For an advanced version after players are familiar with the artworks, use the short or long version without word clues.
This photo shows my daughter, Chrissy, playing the long version of artworks including people with her son, Caleb (3½) and nieces (my granddaughters), Zoey (7½) and Sophia (3½). We played the cooperative version, and they were all excited to find the last artwork asked for at the bottom of the stack shown in the middle! (You can start the game with any card, and it will work!)
