Friendship activities fit well with Montessori education, which emphasizes peace education and lessons in courtesy. They’re especially helpful at the beginning of the school year but are great at any time. Of course, kindness/friendship activities are wonderful around Valentine’s Day, but here I’m focusing on friendship activities for back to school or any season.
Today, I’m sharing a roundup of Montessori-inspired friendship activities for home or school from around the blogosphere.

You know, I was searching for a class idea for our homeschooling co-op this quarter, and you might have given me a great idea – I wonder if having a “Friendship Class” would be fun for the kids. Maybe do some friendship games, talk about resolving conflicts peacefully, make something (friendship bracelets?) . . . sounds like a good time to me!
Deb says
I think that sounds like a great idea, Dionna! My kids would have loved that when we were homeschooling. 🙂

Fun ideas! Our son starts preschool (sadly non Montessori; there is no Montessori preschool in our city) in a couple weeks and we hope he makes some good friends!
Deb says
Thanks, Crunchy Con Mom! It is sad that Montessori schools aren’t available everywhere. Fortunately, there are lots of great non-Montessori preschools, too. I hope your son has a fabulous experience. 🙂

I love the idea of doing friendship bracelets! My son’s been making some for himself recently, but it’s time we branched out. 🙂
Deb says
Thanks, Lauren! My daughter and her friends loved making friendship bracelets of various kinds. It’s great that your son has already been making some. 🙂
