Montessori sensorial extensions are some of my favorite Montessori activities! They add interest to the traditional sensorial materials, and they inspire children’s creativity. There are some beautiful printables available to make it simple for Montessori teachers and homeschoolers to encourage sensorial extension work.
Disclosure: Montessori Print Shop is one of my blog sponsors. I was given a copy of the Montessori Print Shop Sensorial Extensions Bundle. My opinion is honest and my own. This post also contains some affiliate links (at no cost to you).

Examples from the Montessori Print Shop Sensorial Extensions Bundle
As long as you have full-sized sensorial materials, the printables from the Sensorial Extensions Bundle are very easy to use. I like to print them out and make booklets to have available for inspiration. Here are just a very few ideas using some of the printables from the Sensorial Extensions Bundle. There are some that work well for older toddlers. Most are perfect for preschoolers, and some are great for early elementary.
Note: All the sensorial materials in my photos are from Alison’s Montessori. We’ve loved all their materials! You can find links to my reviews along with links to other sensorial materials in my post “Montessori Sensorial Materials I Recommend Buying.”
Using Sensorial Activity Cards with Older Toddlers and Preschoolers
I love the Sensorial Activity Work Cards for children who are doing basic work with the sensorial materials. You can use them as cards, although I made them into a booklet that I can add to as the materials are worked with. I printed the materials out 4 to a page (and printed out the ones that were already 4 to a page at 90% and then cut off the name to make them the same size as the other cards).
This is my 2-year-old grandson, Caleb working with the brown stair. We added the card that says, ” Today I worked with the brown stair,” to a booklet with materials he’s worked with previously (the pink tower, 1st cylinder block, and red knobless cylinders).
The cards are a nice keepsake and a way for children (and their parents if they attend a Montessori school) to learn the names of the sensorial materials. There are also black and white cards that the child can color.
Knobless Cylinder Pattern Cards
There are 2 sets of Montessori Print Shop Knobless Cylinder Pattern Cards. Here Caleb is working with one of the cards from Knobless Cylinder Pattern Cards – Set 1. I love the way he concentrated to stand up the knobless cylinders on the cardstock. These would work easiest on a table, but Caleb was proud of getting them to stand up this way!
Here’s an example of one of the cards from Knobless Cylinder Pattern Cards – Set 2. I love the way they can both renew interest in the sensorial materials and inspire creativity.
The Knobless Cylinder Comparison Cards show some of my favorite sensorial extensions! There are simple to complex comparison cards.
Pink Tower and Brown Stair Pattern Cards
Montessori Print Shop has 3 sets of Pink Tower and Brown Stair Pattern Cards. My 6-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, had lots of fun with a number of the extensions from the Pink Tower and Brown Stair Pattern Cards Set 3. I think this was her favorite!
Red Rod and Number Rod Pattern Cards
I had always resisted getting the traditional number rods for homeschooling. Because of lack of space, I used other manipulatives and number rod alternatives for working with quantity. But I couldn’t resist all the great extensions that are possible with the red rods and number rods together. This is one example of the awesome designs that can be created. There are pattern cards for the red rods and number rods used alone, but this design uses the Montessori Print Shop Red Rods and Number Rods Pattern Cards. So cool!
Again, the Sensorial Extensions Bundle from Montessori Print Shop is valued at $54.50 and priced as a bundle at $38.
Other Examples of Montessori Print Shop Materials in Use at Living Montessori Now
So many parents wonder how to present Montessori materials. Montessori Print Shop has manuals with presentations and lessons for children who are approximately 2½ to 6 years of age. This, of course, depends on the individual child, and many activities also work well for 7- and 8 year olds.
If you want all 4 manuals, the Primary Montessori Teaching Manuals Bundle is $105 (well worth it).
You can see all the teaching manuals here.
