While many parents (and teachers) feel uncomfortable with teaching children to read, it really helps to have a complete, simple-to-use curriculum on hand. Today, I’m reviewing the Montessori Print Shop green language series materials, which make teaching phonograms so much easier!
Disclosure: Montessori Print Shop is one of my blog sponsors. I was given a copy of the Montessori Print Shop Montessori Green Language Series Bundle. My opinion is honest and my own. This post also contains some affiliate links (at no cost to you).
Note: You can see all the Montessori Print Shop language bundles here. The Pink and Blue Language Series materials from Montessori Print Shop are amazing, too! I’m not reviewing them here today, but I highly recommend them! My preference with the pink, blue, and green series materials is the photo printables. I prefer the photos since I’ve found that most young children are drawn to them.

Examples from the Montessori Print Shop Green Language Series Bundle
Here are just a very few ideas using some of the printables from the Green Language Series Bundle.
Word and Picture Cards Set 1 (ee)
I’m on the homeschooling team of Caleb, my 4-year-old grandson. He’s currently working on learning the green series phonograms. In addition to more sequenced work, I like to focus on a phonogram when it fits with the work he’s doing. One day recently, Caleb got out the Montessori tree puzzle (mine is from the Montessori By Mom Shoots and Sprouts Toolbox). After he completed it, I added the ee double sandpaper letter along with the photos and words from the green language series. Caleb was able to easily read and match the cards, and it was a great way to reinforce the ee phonogram.
Montessori Print Shop Green Series ea Phonogram Printables and ee, ea, e-e, ie, ey, and y Phonogram Family Printables
These are some of the materials I would use to continue reinforcing the “long e” sound … this time with the “ea phonogram” and the “long e” phonogram family. The little booklet in the upper left is simply the word and picture cards made into a booklet with the picture after the word as a control of error (self-check).
Montessori Print Shop Green Series ea Phonogram Printables with Related Pages from Free Progressive Phonics Intermediate Readers
Here are some more activities I would use to reinforce the “long e” sound in the ea phonogram. The pages aren’t from Montessori Print Shop, but I love to use them with the green series phonograms. They’re from my favorite readers … and they’re free! You’ll find them on the Progressive Phonics site. (These pages are from Intermediate Phonics Book 13. They can be used as a book or as individual pages.)
Everything on the Progressive Phonics site is free to download. And the readers are fun and silly! They also make teaching reading easy and work very well with the Montessori phonics materials. Rather than having children try to read an entire reader, a number of phonetic words are larger and in red. The adult reads the story with the child reading only the words that are in red. (Some blue words that the child should be able to read are also added starting with Intermediate Phonics Book 8.) Such a great way to introduce reading books!
ph and gh Phonogram Family Cards
My 4- and 8-year-old granddaughters aren’t homeschooled, but I do some afterschooling with them. One day, Zoey (who’s 8) had a spelling list with the word “enough” on it. Those are the sorts of concepts I love to reinforce with the phonogram family cards. Even though Zoey can read and spell well, the phonogram family cards are a great way to reinforce spelling rules. The photo shows Zoey writing the words from the ph and gh phonogram family cards. The gh list especially helps reinforce the gh in “enough” and related words.
Zoey enjoys using Stabilo pencils to write her spelling words on the patio doors. They come off so easily and are very helpful in practicing spelling words. They were great for writing the ph and gh phonogram family cards, too!
There are many more printables included in the Green Language Series Bundle. A PDF of Green Language Series Instructions is included, which is very helpful. And I can’t recommend enough getting the Montessori Print Shop teaching manuals. They have clear instructions for teaching the entire primary language sequence. You can read my review of the teaching manuals here.
The Green Series Language Bundle from Montessori Print Shop is an amazing bundle that can be used over and over again! As I said, it’s valued at $46 and priced as a bundle at $35.
