Montessori-Inspired Summer Activities with Spielgaben {Free Printables}

Today, I want to share some fun summer learning activities using Spielgaben educational toys and free printables. Spielgaben educational toys are designed for ages 3-12, but the activities in this post are for toddlers through early elementary.

For this post, I used the Spielgaben yarn balls, wooden cubes, and wooden dots.

Octopus and Yarn Ball Color Matching for Toddlers and Preschoolers

I’ve been using Spielgaben yarn balls with my toddler granddaughter since she was 2 months old. They’ve typically been one of her favorite toys, and it’s been fun to find new ways to use them at different ages and stages of development.

My activity today is for toddlers or preschoolers. It uses the free Octopus Color Matching printable from File Folder Fun. For each of the activities I used one of the Multicraft 5-piece wooden trays. I also used a Montessori Services basket and a Montessori Services rug for the layout.

My 18-month-old granddaughter, Zoey, had fun with the activity. First she matched up the octopus body parts by color.

Then she added a matching colored yarn ball to the head of each octopus.

Summer Numbers and Counters

This activity uses 10 small Spielgaben wooden cubes and the free Summer Number Cards and Counters from Montessori Print Shop. I printed out the cards and counters at 50% so the numbers would fit on the cubes, and the pictures would fit below the cubes.

I wanted to make the activity a bit like a puzzle, so I used double-sided tape to stick the numbers in two different fonts (available in the Montessori Print Shop printable) to each cube. A child would need to first sort the pictures to find the pictures that match each number. I had a lot of fun with the layout, since it was like a puzzle fitting each picture below the appropriate number.

Summer Roll & Cover Addition Activity

This is a simple dice game to reinforce addition skills. I printed out the free printable from the 3 Dinosaurs Summer Pack. I printed it out at 52% so the Spielgaben wooden dots would fit.
