I never really developed an appreciation for geography as a child. As an adult, I fell in love with geography, and it’s now one of my favorite subjects. I regularly prepare Montessori-inspired geography activities for my 3¾-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, and she’s already developed a love of geography. Today, I want to share a Montessori geography scope and sequence along with Montessori-inspired geography activities that can help other preschoolers develop a love of geography, too.

Montessori-Inspired Geography Activities for Toddlers
I’m using the term “Montessori-inspired” to indicate activities that have many of the characteristics of traditional Montessori activities but aren’t ones you’d find in Montessori manuals. They’re very compatible with Montessori education, though, and are perfect for homeschoolers.
You can start giving even toddlers fun geography activities to help them develop a love of geography.
My granddaughter was enthralled with our Montessori-inspired toddler geography activities with Baby Beluga.
If you use (or are considering using) Little Passports, check out my 5 ways to include your toddler in Little Passports activities.
While I have a number of continent activities for preschoolers shown in this post, you’ll find even activities you can use for toddlers in the Little Passports Early Explorers.
Montessori Geography Scope and Sequence for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners with Traditional Montessori Geography Activities and Montessori-Inspired Geography Activities
A Montessori scope and sequence won’t be uniform from training program to training program. This will give you a general overview. If you’re using an album or training program that’s a bit different, don’t worry. It’s fine. And you might have a few different geography activities on your shelves at one time. They won’t necessarily follow sequentially in the scope and sequence. Especially if you’re traveling or have another real-life geography experience, your geography activities might not follow the standard order.
This post has my main geography posts, but there are many more that have a geography component, such as many of the animal unit studies you’ll find in my Montessori-inspired unit studies post.
The general scope and sequence will be shown as headings below.
