In-person training is almost always best, but it isn’t always possible. Now there are many YouTube videos to help you learn how to present the Montessori-based Godly play lessons at home. If you’ve followed my Montessori-based religious education series, you know that I love both Godly Play and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
They’re both wonderful programs, although I consider Godly Play easier to use in a home environment or in a church with a very limited budget (or a Montessori-based religious education that needs to be started with limited training time). Both programs emphasize parables in the winter – during the liturgical time between Epiphany and Lent.
Whether you’re a Sunday School teacher, homeschooler, or parent who just wants to use Godly Play at home, you can gain much of Godly Play training through YouTube videos. (There are even many from the Godly Play Foundation showing Godly Play trainers demonstrating the lessons). Other than taking Godly Play training, these videos are the best way to see how to present Godly Play lessons. If you’ve taken Godly Play training, the videos are wonderful refreshers.
Godly Play Parables
2018 Update: Stories of God at Home: A Godly Play Approach by Jerome W. Berryman was published in April.
The current Godly Play parable lessons are also in The Complete Guide to Godly Play: Volume 3, Revised and Expanded (2017)
I have posts with more ideas for using Godly Play parables at home in my posts about creative Godly play at home – parables and parable of the sower. You’ll find many patterns for making the parable materials in Young Children and Worship by Sonja M. Stewart and Jerome W. Berryman.
