If you’re looking for activities for an Africa continent box, you can easily put together a cut-and-paste activity using free cutting strips and a printable map of Africa. Preparing a Simple African Animal and Continent Map Cut-and-Paste Activity
African Animal Cutting Strips and Map Tray
Materials Used:
- Multicraft Tray
- Small Box or Container for Animals Cut Out from Cutting Strips
- Zoo Animal Cutting Strips
- Fiskar Scissors (or another high-quality children’s scissors)
- Free Satellite Map of Africa from Wikimedia Commons and/or Free Political Map of Africa from Mapswire
- Safari Ltd. Wild TOOB
- Glue Stick (or another type of glue)
African Animal and Continent Map Cut-and-Paste Activity
Cutting the African Animal Strips
Your child or students can cut out the animals the same day they glue them on the map, or they can save them in the cutting container for another day. My 3½-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, wanted to cut and paste hers on the same day.
Completed African Animal Cut Outs and Animals on Satellite Map of Africa
After cutting the strips apart, Zoey chose one animal of each kind for the cut-and-paste activity. Then we talked about camels living in the desert and gorillas living in the forests of central Africa. Zoey glued the camels and gorillas in their places first. Then she glued the other animals wherever she wished on the satellite map of Africa. Last, she placed each Safari Ltd. African animal on the matching picture.
She enjoyed the activity and was proud of her work!
African Animal Cutting Strips on Political Map of Africa
An older child can focus more on the political map locations. The credits page of the cutting strips tells the country in Africa where each photo was taken. Older children could use the political map to glue each animal on the correct country. They could cut the photos out more closely to the animal if preferred.
I love that this simple activity focuses on both geography and important fine-motor skills. It’s perfect for an Africa unit or a zoo animal unit for more than one level.

The Best Way to Begin Working on Scissor Cutting Skills
