My granddaughter loves both animals and Montessori-inspired vocabulary activities. So I prepared another language activity … this time with animals and silhouettes.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of the Montessori Print Shop toddler bundle. This post also contains affiliate links.
To prepare this activity, I used the Montessori Print Shop Animals and Silhouette Cards. The cards are part of the Montessori Print Shop Toddler Bundle. These cards are a wonderful way to extend the interest many toddlers have in animals.
In addition to the cards, I used a Multicraft wooden tray, Beanie Babies, and a Montessori Services rug. I placed the animals in a basket from Michaels craft store along with small tabletop easels to hold the cards (a very simple way to prepare materials).
Here’s a YouTube video which shows how we adapted the activity for my 16-month-old granddaughter (and Christina’s niece), Zoey.
For the activity, you could use Schleich animals or animals from Safari Ltd. TOOBs rather than Beanie Babies. Montessori Services language objects work very well for many vocabulary activities, too.
Zoey loves working with her animals and silhouettes activity. Most of the time, we simply let Zoey work with the materials in whatever way she chooses as long as she is gentle with the materials. She has learned to be gentle with Montessori materials, so she’s able to work with the materials as long as she’s wishes.
